National Book Award
One of the USA’s most prestigious literary prizes, the National Book Award is given by the National Book Foundation.
The National Book Critics Circle Award
The National Book Critics Circle Award annually recognizes books in five categories: fiction, general nonfiction, biography/autobiography, poetry and criticism.
The Newbery Medal
The Newbery Medal, which honors the author making the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children, is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association.

Nobel Prize for Literature
Swedish engineer Alfred Nobel provided for the establishment of the Nobel Foundation in his will in 1895. Since 1901, it has recognized achievement in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, peace and economics. Past winners include Octavio Paz, Albert Camus, Ernest Hemingway and Hermann Hesse.
The PEN/Faulkner Award
The PEN/Faulkner Award is affiliated with PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists) and is named for William Faulker, the author of such novels as “The Sound and the Fury” and “As I Lay Dying.” The award recognizes an outstanding fiction book selected by judges who are themselves fiction writers.

The Pulitzer Prize
The will of Joseph Pulitzer, a crusading newspaper journalist, provided for the establishment of the Pulitzer Prizes. Since its inception in 1917, the prizes have recognized the best in journalism, letters, drama and music. Many consider it the most prestigious award a journalist or author can achieve.
